March Followup - 1.15 million!

There were over 1.1 million women, men and children at the March for Women's Lives on April 25, 2004 in Washington DC. Grandmas, parents, students, singles, kids. The media estimates stink, but we know from the planning end that there were so many busses, that many busses had to be rerouted to metro stations (hundreds of them). The march organizers wanted to double the number of trolleys to help people do the march and the police made them change their march plans. The march was so packed that it was more like a shuffle and took some people until 3:30pm to go the 2 miles. I have heard that it was the biggest march ever in DC.

The speakers were incredible. You can watch them yourself. Go to www.cspan.com, in the right column the March for Women's Lives is the top watched site. Incredible speakers. Camryn Manheim (from the Practice) was one of my favorites. Kim Gandy (NOW President) is always inspiring. And our own Nitche Ward (from NC, works at NOW in DC) spoke more than once.

Our next Raleigh NOW meeting is Tuesday, May 4 at 7pm at the YWCA.

We will have a "Keep On Marching" meeting with other march organizer groups in June, date tbd. Hope to see you there!
