History of War on Women

At our NC NOW state conference on 10/5/12, NC NOW VP Robin Davis did something on the history of the war on women. She brought in books from the 1990s! I am listing a few of them here.

Backlash: The Undeclared War Against American Women is a 1991 nonfiction book by Pulitzer Prize winner Susan Faludi, which argues for the existence of a media driven "backlash" against the feminist advances of the 1970s. (from wikipedia)

The Republican War Against Women: An Insider's Report from Behind the Lines was published in 1996.

The second book was written by a woman who grew up in ultraconservative Utah to be a stalwart New York Republican.

According to http://nymag.com/news/frank-rich/gop-women-problem-2012-4/index2.html,
"When it came out, it caused a small stir, but these days her eyewitness account of her party’s transformation seems more pertinent and prescient than ever. It gives the lie to the notion that a Republican war on women is some Democratic trope, trumped up in recent weeks for political use in 2012. Her history also reminds us that the hostility toward modern women resurfacing in the GOP today was baked into the party before the religious right gained its power and before recriminalizing abortion became a volatile cause. "

Thanks, Robin, for bringing these to our attention!

Real Deal in NC!

To remind people of how bad things have already gotten in NC , you should take a look at the so called "Women's Right To Know" bill which was passed in 2011 after the conservatives overrode Governor Perdue's veto.

See the text of the bill itself at http://www.ncleg.net/Sessions/2011/Bills/House/PDF/H854v1.pdf

Read more about what has been going on in NC and what you can do about it (besides vote!!).

Vote like your life depends on it!

Because it does!

Voting is crucial if we want women to go forward in NC. The last 2 years we have been pushed too far backward. This cannot continue. We need to make real forward progress! Vote vote vote!
